Thomas Zehetmair appointed chief conductor of the Musikkollegium Winterthur

Beginning in the 2016/2017 concert season, conductor and violinist, Thomas Zehetmair will assume the artistic direction of the Musikkollegium Winterthur. Thomas Zehetmair has already made a name for himself here. Only last April, he conducted symphonies by Joseph Haydn and Anton Bruckner. During the last concert season, a widely acclaimed CD featuring symphonies no. 1 and no. 5 by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy under his direction was released. Thomas Zehetmair follows a long line of renowned musicians, who preceded him as artistic director of the Musikkollegium Winterthur, among them, Franz Welser-Möst (1987–1990), János Fürst (1990–1994) Heinrich Schiff (1995–2001) to name a few. The orchestra traces its roots back to the 17th century, making it one of the oldest orchestras in Europe. The orchestra consists of around 50 musicians. The repertoire of the Musikkollegium focuses on music of the classical and early romantic periods as well as works of the 20th century.
