New Mozart CD from Martin Stadtfeld

Martin Stadtfeld: new Mozart CD a great success!

Martin Stadtfeld has released a very special double CD focusing on Mozart’s first years as a composer – when he was a child. As a 10-year old, he wrote his first piano concerto in F major KV 37; his 9th piano concerto in E-flat major KV 271, affectionately called “Jeune homme“, followed ten years later. Martin Stadtfeld plays Mozart’s works with exceeding elegance complemented perfectly by his impeccable technique. He decisively works through Mozart’s development from a precocious child prodigy to a master of his metier, clearly illuminated by the comparison of the two works. The musical harmony of the performance with the Mozarteum Orchester Salzburg under Ivor Bolton is equally compelling.

On the second CD, Martin Stadtfeld interprets an even earlier composition by Mozart – the London Sketchbook, written by the young composer at a mere 8 years of age. During one of his tours around Europe, his father fell ill in London delaying their trip. Young Mozart used the time to compose this collection of 36 pieces. Martin Stadtfeld takes this early work seriously demonstrating that even at a young age, Mozart was destined for greatness. He also keenly conveys the humour and underlying sauciness characteristic of young Mozart.

Critics wrote the following of the CD: “Stadtfeld presents an album that is both wonderfully inspired per se, but also inspiring for the listener. The manner in which he revives the fervent creative genius of young Mozart testifies to his profound understanding of these works.” (Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung 15th October 2015)

The CD was released under the Sony classic label and is available in retail everywhere.
