New CD from Andreas Staier

Bach’s piano concertos BWV 1052-1058 continue to represent a considerable feat for any pianist, which makes the latest recording of the works performed by Andreas Staier and the Freiburger Barockorchester all the more remarkable. Not only is their historical, exceedingly musical interpretation a triumph, their playing is perfectly attuned – which comes as no surprise from such virtuosos of old music. Bach has long been considered the father of the piano concerto. Though this may not be entirely true, these seven piano concertos represent climactic achievements in his later work, paving the way for the emergence of the modern piano concerto, and remain an essential part of present day piano literature.
