Francesco Piemontesi joins the Mozarteum Orchestra in Salzburg

Francesco Piemontesi’s run of artistically riveting concerts continues. On 11th May 2017, he will visit Salzburg to perform alongside the Mozarteum Orchestra. Under James Gaffigan, he will play the seldom heard Dvorak piano concerto. The concerto composed in 1876 is unique both with respect to its combination of a traditional movement technique with the symphonic treatment of the solo instrument, which was new for its time – the piano is neither dominant nor virtuosic, but instead on equal footing with the orchestra as they explore a common theme. Francesco Piemontesi plumbs the musical depths of the work and, thanks to his technical finesse and broad range of musical expression, uncovers the finest nuances of the unmistakable Slavic character of the composition. It can also be heard on his widely praised recording with the BBC Symphony Orchestra under Czech conductor Jiri Belohlavek.
