Andreas Staier at the Bachfest in Leipzig

A highlight of this year’s Bachfest in Leipzig will be Andreas Staier, who is giving two concerts. On June 10th, he and Alexander Melnikov perform a very special evening with Andreas Staier performing Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier on the harpsichord, followed by Alexander Melnikov’s interpretation of Shostakovich’s Preludes and Fugues op. 87 on the piano. Shostakovich refers to his baroque predecessor in both formal structure and content. The direct comparison provides deep insights into the contrarian worlds of the two composers. The concert will be broadcast on June 28 at 8:03 pm on Deutschlandfunk Kultur.

On June 16th, Andreas Staier will give a solo recital. In keeping with the motto “Cycles” of the Bach Festival, he plays preludes and fugues by Georg Böhm and Johann Caspar Ferdinand Fischer alongside Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier, once again creating a sensibly well-rounded baroque program interpreted in his incomparably authentic manner. In July, Andreas Staier will also actively support the jury of the Bach Competition Leipzig with his expertise.
