On 13th November in Greiz and on 18th November in Reichenbach, Tobias Feldmann captivated audiences with his performance of Brahms’ violin concerto in D major Op. 77. Critics wrote the following about him: “He delighted listeners not only with his impeccable command of this formidable work, every phrase of which he crafted with the utmost care.” (Ostthüriner Zeitung, 16th November 2015)
This concerto is undoubtedly one of the most well-known and difficult works in violin literature. Brahms began composing this work in 1878. As Brahms himself did not play the violin and composed the piece on the piano, the assistance of friend and violin soloist Joseph Joachim proved invaluable. In one instance, Joachim convinced him to change the tempo for the final movement from “vivace” to “ma non troppo vivace” ensuring that the solo part would not be excessively difficult.
Critics further praised Tobias Feldmann’s writing: “Tobias Feldmann owes the candidness of his playing not only to his impeccable technical skill but also to the profound sensitivity, with which he plays this demanding concerto and its passages with their contrasting moods.” (Freie Presse Chemnitz, 21st November 2015)
The young soloist was accompanied by the Vogtlandphilharmonie under David Marlow.
