Contrapunto

In the programme Contrapunto, the versatile Cuateto SolTango combines works by Johann Sebastian Bach, such as Contrapunctus I BWV 1080 and movements from Robert Schumann’s Studies in Canonical Form op. 56, with music from the Golden Era of Tango Argentino. These include arrangements of tangos from the pens of Juan D’Arienzo, Osvaldo Pugliese and Horacio Salgán, among others. Even though the creative periods of all these composers and the different musical styles span centuries, there are similarities that the four musicians of Cuarteto SolTango highlight; especially in this classical chamber music-like line-up of violin, violincello, piano and bandoneon, which can also act as a small Orquesta Típica.
In pointed explanations, the performers go into further detail and give the audience little hints on what to listen out for. In this way, both classical music and tango lovers are picked up, taken along and sent home with the lingering memory of the pleasure of music.
