The Royal Ballet welcomes Isabelle van Keulen in Amsterdam

The project by the name of “Best of Balanchine“ will present the most popular works of legendary twentieth century ballet choreographer George Balanchine in 10 performances. For these performances, Isabelle van Keulen will join the orchestra of the National Opera & Ballet Amsterdam under Fayçal Karoui to bring Stravinsky’s violin concerto in D major to life.

The 1931 violin concerto was composed completely in neoclassicistic style. Stravinsky paid special attention to creating a harmonious relationship between the soloist and orchestra, which is why the virtuosic facets of the work remain in the background while the subtle aspects of chamber music define the piece. In 1972, George Balanchine created innovative choreography for the piece, which audiences have the chance to witness at the upcoming performances. Music and dance are rarely combined in such an impressive manner. Concert-goers in Amsterdam can look forward to performances sure to delight both their eyes and ears.
