London Philharmonic Orchestra welcomes Isabelle van Keulen

The concert with the London Philharmonic Orchestra under Principal Conductor Vladimir Jurowski in der Royal Festival Hall marks a special highlight for Isabelle van Keulen in this artistically profound season.

On 25 January, she will play the liturgy “Mourned by the Wind” by Georgian composer Giya Kancheli and present this unique work from violin literature on the stage. Like many artists during the Soviet Era, Kancheli’s oeuvre in Soviet Georgia was defined by a conflict between artistic freedom and allegiance to the system. In the work composed in 1989, Kancheli expresses his sadness over the death of a friend; the piece is saturated with pain over the loss, but remains far removed from anything cliché. The work places the most stringent demands on the soloist, which Isabelle van Keulen handles superbly with her profoundly emotional tonal expression.
